When Rebuilding Makes Sense
A bucket rebuild is typically the right choice when the main shell structure is sound, wear is limited to cutting edges, teeth adapters, and side cutters, the bucket is a custom size or configuration not readily available off the shelf, or the cost of a rebuild is less than 50 to 60 percent of a new bucket. A quality rebuild involves replacing cutting edges and teeth, welding new wear plates on high-wear areas using AR400 or AR500 plate, repairing or reinforcing cracked areas, checking and replacing pins and bushings, and adding reinforcement plates to known weak points.
When Replacement Makes Sense
Consider replacing the bucket when the shell plate is worn through or severely distorted, multiple cracks indicate widespread fatigue, the bucket has been rebuilt multiple times and original dimensions are compromised, pin bores are severely worn and the mounting area is damaged, or a standard-size replacement is readily available and competitively priced.

We provide a detailed estimate before starting work. Worn material is removed, new AR plate is cut and fitted, and all welds are made with appropriate preheat for the high-strength steel involved. The finished bucket is dimensionally checked and painted.

A typical excavator bucket rebuild costs 30 to 60 percent of a new bucket, depending on the extent of wear. For a 36-inch excavator bucket, a new replacement might cost $4,000 to $8,000, while a rebuild typically runs $1,500 to $4,000.
