Conveyor Wear Plate Replacement — Gold River Mine

A Gold River mining operation was experiencing rapid wear on their main conveyor system. The original mild steel wear plates were lasting only 3-4 months before needing replacement, creating costly downtime and maintenance cycles.
We designed a replacement wear plate system using AR500 abrasion-resistant steel — significantly harder than the original mild steel plates. Each plate was plasma-cut to exact dimensions, pre-drilled for countersunk bolts, and edge-beveled for smooth material flow.
The installation required careful scheduling around production runs. We pre-fabricated all plates in our shop on Quadra Island, then mobilized to Gold River for a planned shutdown installation. The entire swap was completed in a single 12-hour shift.
The Challenge
Original mild steel conveyor wear plates were failing every 3-4 months, causing frequent production shutdowns and escalating maintenance costs.
Our Solution
Designed and fabricated AR500 abrasion-resistant replacement plates, plasma-cut to exact specs. Pre-fabricated everything off-site and completed the full installation during a single planned shutdown.
The Result
The AR500 plates have been running for over 8 months with minimal wear — more than double the life of the original plates. The mine has reduced conveyor maintenance downtime by over 60%.
